Statement by GIOVANNA
MARTANO
Councillor for Tourism, Artisanship and Commerce - Provincia
di Napoli
The White Night, as the success gained
with the last edition shows, represents a great occasion
for citizens to meet each other, to rediscover our city’s
places and talents.
In the first White Night, there were 2 millions people
attending the event, and this occasion goes over national
borders, and offers, to Italian and foreign tourists,
a great moment to know our city in an enthusiastic,
secure and funny environment.
Also this year, Provincia di Napoli joined with a great
effort the organization of the September 30th event,
a symbolic conclusion of the summer season, in which
Provincia di Napoli has been the main protagonist in
the realization of big shows and cultural events, for
both Neapolitans and tourists, above all the free concerts
in Arena Flegrea and several festivals belonging to
Circuito Jazz. A mix of events that involved the entire
province, allowing to offer all the visitors in our
land an entertainment proposition both rich and qualitative,
as requested by sector operators since many years.
The White Night is an important promotion tool for our
land and our economic development, as the positive balance
of last year’s edition shows. An important possibility
or the commerce sector, and , more in general, the entire
third sector.
This year’s theme is Mediterranean, a sea full
of culture; a choice that confirms the will of Naples
to propose itself as a meeting point among different
cultures, a connecting point between Europe, North Africa
and Middle East.
In the squares and streets of our city, with all the
townships involved, artists coming from different Mediterranean
countries will exhibit, a mutual tolerance and respect
signal, in an historical period in which Mediterranean
is the main stage of conflicts and divisions.
